  • Cuiaba

Posted: August 28th, 2007, 5:40pm GMT by Ana

During the last week of hollidays, I visited Cuiaba, capital of Mato Grosso, state that forms part of West Center of Brazil. The city is located near to the edges of the Cuiaba river and because of the important urban developement of Varzea Grande and Cuiaba, nowadays it doesn’t have limits between those cities. According to IBGE, Cuiaba’s population arrive at six hundred a thousand habitants. If we calculate the number of habitants of Cuiaba and Varzea Grande, we can say that there are eight hundred a thousand of habitants who live in this region. Established in 1719, the city was famous for its gold deposits until century XX. Since then, it had a population growth above of the average of the country, reaching its height in the decades of 1970 and 1980.

I really like there because it’s a city like Sao Paulo but with a daily routine not so extressing. There we can see a lot of waterfalls and a beautiful nature that we can’t find here.

  • Shrek the Third

Posted: June 25th, 2007, 4:51pm GMT by Ana

This month I saw the movie “Shrek the Third”, and even if the majority of people who saw this film said that it’s not too funny like the others Shrek’s films, I think it was as good as the others films. This time Shrek had to be the king of Far Far Away but he didn’t want that so he searched the closest crown prince, Fiona’s cousin, called Arthur, or Artie. During his adventure searching Arthur, the kingdom of Far Far Away was attacked by faerie’s son and his “friends”.

My prefered scene is the death of the King of Far Far Away, Fiona’s father, when he said his last words to Shrek. It’s a sad scene but the dificult of the king to say “right” or to say the name of the closest crown prince is very funny because the others caracters or curious to know what the king had to say, so they are paralysed and paying attention in what he was speaking. Since he was sick he was talking slowing and when he was finishing his sentence he faints and had to beginning again the sentence.

There’s another scene that I liked so much. Shrek and his companions had to arrive as fast as possible in Far Far Away to save Fiona’s life. So, they ask for help to a wizard that they met in the middle of the way to the kingdom. They ask him to transport them as close as possible of  Far Far Away. The wizard did that but when they landed, the cat was “inside” the body of the donkey and the donkey was “inside” the body of the cat. After that, when Shrek and his companions were in Far Far Away and they almost were attacked, to save theirs lifes, the cat did his cute face to the soldiers to make them feel sorry and desist to attack him, Shrek and the donkey. But he forgot that he was inside donkey’s body, so it’s very funny the donkey doing that face!

  • Vox Circus

Posted: May 17th, 2007, 1:31am GMT by Ana

Vox Circus is a relatively new circus in São Paulo (it was inaugurated approximately one year ago) different of the other circuses that exist in the city. Localisated in the Morumbi, the circus was constructed by its owners, who had to conciliate the area of the circus and the area to parking visitors’ cars, inside of a small land. Even not having an important structure the work which is done there is very interesting. Composed for a team of only three actors, the cast looks for make an interactive  show with the auditorium.

When we arrive at the entrance of the circus we really can think that the show won’t be very good because of his humble entrance so we don’t have a good impression, but just as you enter in the canvas of the circus that this dumb thought change. The actors, who work in the ticket office and in the entrance, are funny since the purchase of the tickets until the applauses in the end of the show. As the spectators go arriving, these actors go making funny comments to descontrair the public. For example, they compare the people with famous actors and when a spectator arrive more late (after the beginning of the show) they starts “to fight” with the person as if they were friends “Ah if you to want to arrive more late at the next presentation, that’s ok, I leave, but informe me”.

To catch the attention of the public the actors don’t make only acrobatics as in the others circuses, but also it has a teatral scene. The actors represent a confused couple and all the acrobatics are made as if they were with fear and as if it was the first time that they make it, unprecise and unbalanced. In the reality, the show is entirely projected without unexpected facts. It also has a third character that is the employee of the couple. This is represented as a person she-ass and clean palco enters the acrobatics of the couple. While she makes this service, the employee tells her life to the public. The way of the characters interacts with the people is different and descontract. In the end of the show the actors present them acrobatics as in a conventional circus with a pretty game of light. The spectators that before saw them as only clowns now see them as really tumblers, at least I got this conclusion when I was view the show. After all presentations the actors put a video which is the retrospect of what they had passed to construct the circus. The video is very interesting and shows step by step how the circus was made by its owners. In the end they conclude selling t-shirts of the circus because they had not yet gotten sponsorship in this one year of career.

The show presented at the moment is called “Curta a Temporada”.

  • ENDA

Posted: May 15th, 2007, 1:09pm GMT by Ana
I choose to talk about ENDA because I like dancing and I think that this event is the most important for dancers in São Paulo. Actually in its twenty sixth edition, the National Meeting of Dance, or simply ENDA, is a traditional event made by the Union of the Professionals of Dance of the [...]
