Syllabus
Social Media in ELT is divided in six weeks as follows:
Week 1: January 14th-January 20th
Getting acquainted: Socialize on the SMiELT Forum, open accounts and configure the software we will be using, discuss how you have used these tools in your context, sum up main ideas, conference with guest speakers, reflect on assigned questions in your personal blogs.
Week 2: January 21st - January 27th
Connecting: Read suggested articles and papers, aggregate other participants, comment on blogs and/or bring discussions to your blog, link back to sources, find and/or produce materials to share on social network sites and discuss how to introduce/use these materials.
Week 3: January 28th - February 3rd
Networking: Search for and join interest groups and people on various platforms through tagging, social bookmarking or microblogging. Find out about the Creative Commons Licenses and how to use mashups in class projects. Continue discussion with others on your blogs.
Week 4: February 4th - February 10th
Building: using wikis for:
- class content management and collaborative projects
- presentations
- planning of education projects linked with the development of free content
- development of free content on Wikieducator for e-learning

Week 5: February 11th - February 17th
Playing and knowledge building: Educators can use games in the classroom to convey facts and generate new creative insights in an exciting and playful atmosphere of cooperation and competition. During the two next weeks, we will brainstorm, connect, network, play, create narratives, stories on VoiceThread/Community Walk to build open resources for learners or for professional development. Week 6: February 18th - February 24th
