English Teacher Training

By Aaron Campbell · June 02, 2005

In a course on English Teaching Methodologies at a Japanese university, Jamie Hall has his students blogging away their thoughts on the problems facing teachers of English in Japan, what good language teaching is, and what challenges they are sure to face once they become teachers themselves. With titles like Center of Ricefield, Riverdance, Forest Sheep, and Today’s Dog, don’t miss the opportunity to visit these learner sites and interact with them.

I’ve been teaching for a number of years…a bigger number than I care to admit. Maybe I’m getting a little burned out. Do any of you have some suggestions for good downloadable lessons that have a little zing to them…please do not refer me to English to Go or Dave’s ESL Cafe. Those places are in more of a rut than I am!!

Check out www.BreakingNewsEnglish.com These daily lessons are based on the same day’s news and generally have about 20 different activities for each lesson. There are two levels per day and two lostenings which you can download as MP3 files or subscribe to via podcast.

All lessons are downloadable and have classroom ready handouts.

Don’t just take the creator’s (Sean’s) word for. Having used 3 recent offerings from Breaking News English, I think it might offer what you are looking for Joan.

It is a great resource!
