This site is a wonderful idea and I am excited to see it grow and blossom. Unfortunately, at my school (a high school in Las Vegas, U.S.) and I fear many schools in the United States, blogging sites such as blogger and live journal are blocked by school district filters and can not be accessed from school computers. I was very excited to use blogs with my students after the online class in January only to discover that the blogging sites cannot be accessed at school. However, I am having my ESL students create websites this month that display all of the work they have produced this year and hope that I can showcase the projects here at this site. Look forward to working with you all and congratulations on the wonderful site.

So nice to hear from you Yvonne and what a shame student blogging and independent publishing is not allowed at your school. Nancy McKeand had the same problem.

Try to talk to the technical department, expose your reasons and arguments for blogging with the students. Although all blogging sites are filtered at my school as well, I had special permission to use Blogger (blogspot) and Bloki.

Send us word and an explanation about your students projects when they are ready.

Congratulations, dear Barbara, for your joint educational venture!
Best wishes for this most exciting ship and may all that sail (in) her
reach the horizon line in EFL/ESL learning/teaching and further
afield.
Thank you for letting e-teach know about it. I must add that
navigating through the site is a delight even at this early stage.
Bravo to the three of you!

Hello everyone, welcome to Dekita—and thanks for the kind words.

Daf—You can link to your file. We use Textile, which is a simplified markup language like Markdown or BBCode. Instead of an (X)HTML link tag, just use the corresponding Textile code and you’re golden.

Bee & others,

I just read about this venture in a posting made to one of the lists I moderate.

I can feel and quite understand the excitement. I share it! There is a project I’m involved with that I’d like to feature, but I must discuss it with other members of the team first.

Our problem is that with students from Russia, for example, connectivity is not always good and often limited and expensive.

Still. I hope to be back.

Dennis

Dennis – let us know about the project and Alyne, we will have a look at that post. Congratulations on the good work you are doing with your students!

Bee,

Another great project! I’m still not entirely sure how it would work for students, especially for my students who are not always very focused or self-motivated, but I’m keen to learn! I’ll try to keep an eye on what you’re doing and if possible to participate in whatever way possible.

Our school year is almost over, as far as class time with students is concerned, so now is the time when we are planning projects for nxt year. E-Twinning is a the Next Big Thing for European schools, but I’d still like to try out your blog project – if I can get a few of my students to pass to a higher level of project participation.

Cheers, —- Phil

Hi Phil,

Good to see you back and feel free to take your students to respond to my 11th graders, 10th graders or to the many other student blogs mentioned on Dekita.org
